How To Help Your Clients Stick To a Healthy Diet

Dieting is unarguably the hardest part of staying fit, and it's often what most clients struggle with. But at the same time, many trainers lack the expertise to make clients switch to a better diet healthily. So if you're a certified personal trainer struggling with such things, this guide is for you.

Additionally, if you want to expand your skills and offer your clients a complete package of wellness and fitness services, check out W.I.T.S Education's lifestyle wellness course.

Be Patient and Train Them Little By Little

Don't force your clients to aim for instant results. A change of diet needs getting used to, especially if they have poor eating habits. Their bodies would take a while to adjust to this shift, so make sure you give them plenty of time to get used to it. Start by making small changes in their diet so clients can get used to it.

Introduce Them To Healthy Yet Delicious Meals

Dieting doesn't mean that clients need to eat bland food. There are several recipes out there that are not only healthy but also delicious. Incorporating fruits and spices into their diet would improve the overall taste of their meals.

Let Them Have Cheat Days

Cravings are natural, and people shouldn't always be suppressing them. Because if they do, they'll lose motivation and won't stick to their diet. As a trainer, you should allow them to have cheat days so they can eat what they crave and feel fulfilled. However, too many cheat days are bad, but you can let them eat a small portion of what they crave each week. This way, their calorie intake will be low, and they'll get to satisfy their cravings.

Advise Them Not to Count Calories

Counting calories is one of the worst things trainers could do for their clients. It induces stress and anxiety in clients, compelling them to constantly check calories in everything they eat. As a result, they aren't able to enjoy any meal. If they can't enjoy a meal, they won't get the satisfaction of eating. This, in turn, would cause them to crave delicious food and not keep up with their diet.
